Brickwork in Bicester

Extensions, new walls, door and window openings, lintels and brick repairs.

I'm Chris Slater, a bricklayer based in Bicester with 20 years in the trade, and I take on brickwork for homes across Oxfordshire and into Buckinghamshire. That covers new walls and extensions, structural changes such as new door and window openings, and repairs to brickwork that has cracked or started to crumble.

Structural openings are a regular job. If you're fitting bifold or patio doors, I'll form the opening in the wall, fit the lintel and build the brickwork to the sizes your door maker has specified, so the doors go in first time. I also knock through internal walls and install the lintels to support them.

For repairs, I cut out damaged or 'blown' bricks (where the face has broken away) and replace them with bricks chosen to match, then repoint the wall so the repair blends in. Where a wall has cracked, I can set stainless steel helix bars into the mortar joints to tie the brickwork back together and help stop the crack returning.

I price every job after I've seen it. Get in touch with a few details and I'll arrange a time to come and look.

Before and after

  • Brick chimney rebuilt

The top of this brick chimney had weathered badly, with loose bricks and failed mortar. I took it down and rebuilt it, keeping the stepped brick detail and finishing it with a new mortar cap.

“We employed Chris to create an opening in the rear cavity wall of our house, ready to accept new bifold doors. Chris was easy to communicate with, professional and took pride in the work.”

Brickwork: common questions

Can you make an opening for bifold doors?

Yes. I form the opening, fit the lintel and build the brickwork to the sizes given by your door manufacturer, so it's ready for the fitters.

Can you match new bricks to my existing house?

Yes, as closely as the available bricks allow. I source bricks to match the size, colour and texture of what's there, and match the mortar so repairs and extensions blend in.

How much does brickwork cost?

It depends on the size of the job, the bricks used and access to the site, so every job is quoted individually. I'll visit, look at the work and give you a quote.
